Q. How does your service work?

RenovationFind is a free online directory of pre-screened home services companies, trades, and contractors. Every business on our website have cleared extensive background checks based on essential criteria. We use a third-party organization to run background checks on legal and credit history. In addition, we check for valid business registration and licensing, insurance, WCB coverage and use the third party to monitor customer reviews and complaints. If the company is part of the Better Business Bureau, it will get a higher rating on RenovationFind.com.

In addition to the initial screening, we continue to monitor those certified companies to ensure they keep up to a high standard.

RenovationFind is there as a free resource for homeowners. We want to protect them from being taken advantage of while renovating by offering a listing of honest and trustworthy contractors who do excellent work. Also, we want to help promote ethical and deserving companies, so they are successful. Promoting the companies that offer honest work and service will help improve the reputation of the home renovation industry. It’s a win-win for both home improvement companies and homeowners.

Q. What can we look forward to from you at the Winnipeg Home and Garden Centre?

We are so excited to be back at the home shows this year! RenovationFind will have a booth at the show. We welcome visitors to come chat with us and learn more about what we do.

We can help you find contractors for your home projects with our Post a Project service. You enter your project details, and we will send them to three relevant RenovationFind Certified companies near you. Then, those companies will contact you for more information and send a detailed estimate for the project. For example, if you want to replace your old windows, we can send your project details to three of the best window replacement companies in Winnipeg. Then, those window companies will get back to you, and you can start your project from there!

We are also giving away $1,000 at the booth at the home show. You just have to sign up for a RenovationFind membership to enter the draw. You’ll receive exclusive promotions and discounted pricing from our Winnipeg partner companies with a membership.

Q. What advice can you offer to homeowners?

Always do a lot of research before hiring a home renovation contractor to work on your home. You want to make sure they’re a legitimate business with a solid reputation. First, ask to see a valid business license and proof of liability insurance and WCB coverage. All RenovationFind Certified companies have been checked for those credentials.

Then, ask for references from their last three jobs. Talking to recent customers will give you a better idea of what it’s like to work with them. You can also ask to see photos of their work.

Finally, if you’re happy with their documentation and the references, ask for an estimate. They should provide you with a detailed quote that includes all the costs involved with the project. Make sure you get a written quote, not just a verbal one. If you have questions, ask them. A good contractor will have no issues explaining the estimate and addressing your concerns.

Q. What inspires your services?

For years I worked in the renovation industry with my granite company. I heard countless stories about shady contractors ripping people off during renovations. People told me their contractors would take the deposit and disappear, go out of business, or leave them with terrible or unfinished work. So I started thinking about a better way to connect homeowners with trustworthy, quality renovation companies that will do excellent work. RenovationFind was the solution.

Our favourite part about the Winnipeg Home and Garden show is meeting with homeowners and helping them find companies from our website. If we can connect someone with a trustworthy and reputable contractor for their renovation or project and promote a worthy company while doing it, we’ve helped everyone out! We want to make those connections and improve the reputation of the home improvement industry. We can do that at the home show.

Q. Are there any success stories you’d like to share?

Our website is data-driven, and as such, we rely pretty heavily on feedback from our users. The feedback we’ve gotten from homeowners is that they’ve had positive experiences working with RenovationFind Certified renovation companies. As a result, we’ve reduced some of the stress around renovating, and that’s a big thing.
